Prayer

I have been a terrible Catholic lately. We have not gone to church regularly in a while and we do not say prayers together before going to bed. This is going to change. This is the conversation we had in the car on the way home from CCD.B for Buddy, A for me, L for Lizzie.

B.: I have to write to Helen Mary 5 times.
A.: Why do you have to write to Helen Mary[our neighbor] 5 times?
B: Not to Helen Mary, the Helen Mary, because I didn't know it.
A.[moment of silence} It is called the Hail Mary, Buddy.
B: Oh.
A:Do you know the Our Father.
B: No I don't know it. {moment of silence] Who is our father?
L: I know who your father is, it is Grandad!

The conversation went on from there, but it got better. So we are going to become a little more religous, at least have my kids learn the basic prayers.

In other news, my brother had his surgery today. He will be in a cast for 5 weeks and out of work for possibly 5 months. He will definitly not go back until after the first of the year.

Don't Worry! Be Happy!

I have been stressing about Buddy's homework lately. As I mentioned before, he gets to choose his spelling homework. Buddy does not believe in choosing the easy way. Yesterday, he had several options. He chose writing all his spelling words, and then drawing a picture of all the ones that you can draw a picture of. It took him an 45 minutes to do 9 words. He still had 9 to go. He drew pictures of almost all of them. Many of them you did not have to draw a picture of( i.e. giggle, nibble, laugh). I started stressing about time(we had CCD last night). After he started to do more, and was really trying, I decided that I was not going to stress about it anymore. It is great that he wants to do homework, and he that he is not trying to do as little as possible. He is actually trying to do as much as possible. So I thought don't worry about, be happy he is not taking the easy way out. I don't know how long that will last. Until this morning. He did not know how to spell many of his spelling words. Some of the activities that he can choose for spelling homework are great for learning how to use the words, knowing what the words are, and recognizing them in reading. they are not all great for remembering how to spell the words. I worked with him this morning on it, so hopefully he does okay on the test.
In family news, my older brother hurt himself on the job this week. The doctor thinks he ruptured his achilles heel. He sees the specialist tomorrow. You know its serious when my brother says it hurts. He is very dissapointed. He had started training with with the SWAT team, and now he will not be able to work any overtime, or details. He also will not be able to ride his motorcycle. When I was telling Brian about this, he talked about how it stinks that my brother, someone who loves his job and wants to work, is out on disablilty, while others get a minor injury and milk it for all its worth. We knew someone(Tracy you know who I am talking about) who hurt his little toe tripping into Dunkin Donuts and was out for a year. Okay, maybe he wasn't tripping into Dunkin Donuts( thank Kristen for that one). But still.Anyway, that is all for now. I hope Bobby McFerrin is not stuck in everyone's head for the day.

Dane Cook

I recently came across this review of Dane Cook.. I could not disagree with it more. I think that Dane Cook is very funny. According to this article, comedians should be anti social. I think it is great that Dane Cook wants to meet his fans. I also think it is very smart of him to take advantage of the internet to get his name out there. I had to laugh at this quote
"'Tourgasm" was a conspicuously slight and infomercial-like ad to boost Cook's rabid popularity among college-age fans; the rest was filler, Cook and his three comedian underlings in various states of homoerotic, roughhousing repose.". My take on "tourgasm", was that part of it was to help get Robert Kelly, Gary Gulman and Jay Davis names out there. As far as being homoerotic, I think that the reviewer is homophobic or has not spent a lot of time with guys. The stuff I saw on the show is nothing compared to what I see at our parties lol! Anyway. I think he is wicked funny, and I have talked to people who saw him live and they said he was hilarious. I have also heard Bobby Kelly is funny.

Good Weekend

Buddy was full recovered by Friday morning. I had him go in late, just to make sure. Friday night we had a birthday party to go to. It was at a place that has go karts, mini-golf, and arcades. It started at 6 so I thought we would be done by 8. I was mistaken. The kids did the arcade for a half hour, and then went to the birthday party room for an hour were there was a clown doing balloons, pizza, and cake. Then they did Laser tag, go karts and mini golf. We didn't leave until after 9:45, and it took about 30 minutes to get home. The kids had a great time. They did not have time to open the presents at the party. This seems to be something that a lot of people are doing (or not doing) at parties. I am undecided on this. When we open presents at parties it can be a headache for the moms. Presents everywhere, all the kids trying to help, all the kids trying to open the presents. On the other hand, it is fun to see what everyone brought. Buddy had football the next morning. Luckily it was a home game so we didn't have to leave until 8:15am. It was a good game. Buddy got an "injury" in the second half. He came off the field limping and sat on the bench. He then limped until we got to the car, and was miraculously better after the car ride. We did some cleaning in the afternoon and then went to pick up Brian. After a week of Brian eating out, we decided to keep the trend going and had Taco Bell dinner. We then watched Wallace and Gromit together. Brian was still on England time (5 hours ahead) so he fell asleep early on. The kids were ready for bed after the movie. The next morning I woke up at about 5 with Buddy saying he needed me. I go in the bathroom and he is standing there holding his nose because it is bleeding. So I got his nose taken care of and sent him back to bed. Brian was wide awake by then, so he got up and went for a motorcycle ride. He brought back bagels for breakfast (for those of you who remember, I still pronounce bagels the same way, and Brian picks on me for it). After breakfast we took Peaches and Chewy to the park. There is a lake there, so we threw balls into the water for the dogs. Peaches loves to fetch, and swimming is great for her knees (she had knee surgery on each knee). Chewy, does not like to fetch. He will run around with the ball in his mouth to tease the other dogs. When we are home, Peaches will chase after the ball, and Chewy will chase after her and bite her back leg (trying to get her to play). I was afraid he would try to do this in the water. Luckily he did not want to get his head wet. He stared off going in the water were he could stand, and at the end was swimming out to were Peaches was and would swim back with her. He is not a natural swimmer. For the most part he swims with his head totally out of the water, and half his chest out, and he splashes a lot (Laura, he swims like how Una swims). We were a little nervous that one of us might have to rescue him. We were unable to bring Zeus, because he has ear infections. Both kids got wet at the lake. There is no swimming at the lake. Buddy went wading with another boy that was there. Somehow Buddy managed to get completely wet (Neither Brian nor I saw it, but we do not believe it was accidental). Lizzie was knocked down in the water by a 5month old Great Dane puppy (it was so cute). It scared her at first, but soon she was back in the water. We walked around the park a little bit, and Brian and Buddy played football for a little bit. When we got home, we had some lunch. The kids then played outside for a bit. Brian and I both got a nap in while watching the race (the kids were back inside). Then Brian went to play horseshoes with the neighbors, and I mowed the lawn. After the kids were in bed we watched the Patriots game (we had DVR'd it). And that was our weekend. I hope this post entertained some of you at work.
Oh, Lizzie was sick this morning, so hopefully this will be the end of it.

Get ready early to be late.

So the past few days have been interesting. Tuesday, Buddy came home from school and had to choose an activity to do for his homework concerning his spelling words. He chose the most time consuming one, which was to find at least nine of the 18 spelling words in a newspaper or magazine and glue them on a paper and write out the rest of the words. We do not get a newspaper. I had some old issues of U.S. News and World Report and some Scuba Diving mags, as well the free papers/circulars you get in the mail. We spent an hour looking for the words and I do mean we. The majority of the words we found in the Scuba magazine. His words were tought to find. We cheated on two words. One was knew. We found new, so Buddy just added a K on it. Another was bathmat. In circulars they are called bath rugs. So he cut out bath and then cut out mat from doormat and pasted them together. Those were some of the easy words too. So I tried to cook as I helped him with homework and only managed to start browning the ground beef. I ended up giving them Lunchables, while I finished browning the meat and stuck it in the fridge. SO we got the water ready and left house with plenty of time. We get to the field and we are the 2nd ones there, only we don't have Buddy's mouthguard. SO he couldn't practice until I ran home and got it. It was traffic time and I didn't get back to the field until 20 minutes after practice started. At least the water was there. The coaches took over water duty until Brian comes back. So Wednesday we had plenty of time. We did not have to leave for CCD( or as it is now called Faith FOrmation)until 6:10. Buddy came home, did math homework,we did the 20minutes of reading he missed on Tuesday and then the 20 min for Wed. He watched a little TV, we ate dinner and were on our way. I grabbed my purse, locked the door and went to get in the car. Then I realized I do not have my car keys. They are not in my purse, and nowremember that they are on the end table. SO I think, no problem, there are windows open at the back of the house. I will just pop a screen off and climb in through the window off the back porch. Yes I realize how silly it sounds to lock the door when Ithink that it is easy to climb in through the window. Well it turns out it is not so easy. At the old house, I locked myself out a few times and was able to pop the screen out easily. The cat fell through the screen a couple of times. Well, these screens are made so you have to pop them out from the inside.Luckily, we have had several neighbors watch our dogs for us, and they have spare keys to the house. So me and kids ran down the street in the rain(did I mention it was raining) got the spare key, I got my car keys and off we went. By the time we got there we were 15 minutes late. Today was uneventful until about 2pm. I got a phone call from the school saying Buddy was sick. I was still watching the neighbors little girl(she was running late) so I got the girls in the car and went and picked up Buddy. He was asleep in the nurse's office so I had to wake him up get him to walk out to the van. So, I get home and get Buddy in the shower(he got at school). As he was in the shower, the neighbor got home to pick up her daughter. Buddy ended up sleeping for 3hours and seems to be feeling better. My neighbor was nice enough to take Lizzie to dance for me tonight(her daughter is in the same class). So that was my past three days.

not much

In a previous post I complained about the grocery store. Yesterday I recieved a bag with whipped cream in a bag that had dog shampoo in it. The bagger obviusly knew that they did not belong, but did not think to put it with the prevously bagged refrigerated items. I did not have many items and once again I grouped all the cold items together. I know no one wants to hear me complain about this all the time, but Brian can only hear about it so many times. He is also out of town so I can't complain to him.
So this weekend was uneventful. Friday night we didn't do anything, which was great. I did do laundry to get Brian ready for his trip. Saturday morning we went to Buddy's football game. We had to leave at 7am, that was a little rough. We drove Brian to the airport Sat afternoon. He had to go to England for work for the week. He got to see Stonehenge on Sunday. I am so jealous, someday I hope to leave the country. Sunday we went to church and Buddy had football pictures. And that was our weekend. The kids got to play with the other kids in the neighborhood most of the weekend. Yesterday was beautiful so after Buddy did his homework we went for a walk and Buddy rode his bike. Tonight we have football practice and I have to take over waterboy duties.

Respect

What happened to school being a privledge to attend. When I went to college I definetly did notput as much effort in as I should have. I did show respect to my teachers. A friend was telling me about a medical assistance school she is going to. Her current teacher is a Doctor( we will call her Dr.X ). So here is a list of some things that happened in class one day(these are all different students):
1. Student arrives 45 late.
Dr. X says Note that So and SO arrived at 8:45.
2. Student asks the teacher a question " Miss, I forget what your name is"
Dr. X says "my name is Dr. X which has been written on board for 3 days"
3. Several students are working on computers at the desks. Dr. X asks them to stop several times, the computers are not needed for this classs. Sudents continue to work on them.
Dr. X starts calling people out by name and telling them to stop.

After class, all the students stand out in the hallway and complain about how much the don't like the teacher, and can't believe how she acted. I couldn't believe all the things my friend was telling me. I would not last at the school. The students would drive me up the wall.

I hate fire ants!

Why do fire ant bites itch so much? I have recieved numerous bites recently and it is really getting annoying. A ant bit me while I was watching Buddy's football practice, I now know not to wear flip flops. Then I got like 5 bites while I was standing in a nieghbors yard, once again wearing flip flops. I guess I need to stop wearing flip flops, but its hot and they are easy to put on and off. Any way, we had a good Labor Day weekend.Due to the rains we were expecting,on Thur. they decided to delay school for 2hours Friday morning. The kids fcould have easily gone to school, but I was set to enjoy sleeeping in Friday morning. Normally I get the kids up by 6:30 to get them ready and the Neighbors kids come over just before 7. Well Friday, My kids were up at 6am. Normally at 6:30, they are pulling there covers back up saying I am still tired, I want to sleep.Nope not on Friday. They were up playing asking for breakfast. I was thrilled, can you tell.Friday night we were going to go to a baseball game, but it was rainy and cooler out, so we said forget it and stayed home. On Friday we found out Buddy's football game would be cancelled Saturday morning because the fields would be to wet. Well Saturday morning was beautiful. We ended up spening the morning inside cleaning the play room. Now, all there toys have spots and there spots are labeled, so hopefully it will be easier to keep clean. Sat. afternoon/evening was spent at a friends party. It was being held by our friend and two of his neighbors. We didn't realize that there was going to be a slip and side for the kids to use. So Buddy took off his shirt and was in shorts, and Lizzie went on it in her dress. The downside of the party was the entree. It was a pig pickin', which means they cook a pig on a grill and you can see the head. Now I am not a vegeterian but I don't like to think about where my food comes from. I certainly don't want to see its face(one of the reasons i have never tried lobster). Sunday we went back to Tucker Lake. Brian and I did the rope swing. It was a lot of fun. Brian and I were sore for a few days. We also went to a neighbors for a pool party. The kids were exhausted by the end of the night. Monday i purchase a new motorcycle helmut(thanks J, K, and S). I was using and extra one of J.s which was two big. So for my b-day they gave me a gift card to get a new one.
