Red Auerbach

This weekend Red passed away. I have read a couple of books about him. He was, among other things a Celtics coach.

Here is a Yahoo article about him.

the 411

We have had a couple of busy weekends. Two weekends ago we had Buddy's birthday party. We decided to have it a Chuck E. Cheese. It turned out to be a great idea. We ended up with 20 kids, and over 15 adults. It was fun(a little loud) and we were happy not to have 20 kids at the house. That was just kids from the neighborhood. The bill was a little scary, but not too bad. My parents came down on Thursday. Lizzie has no concept of time, so everday she asked if they were coming today, then when Thursday came, she kept asking when they were coming. Friday Brian and I went to Wisconsin to meet a bunch of Navy friends. There were 7 of us all together and it was a ton of fun. Friday night we went to a college hockey game. THe students section of the game was incredible. They have choreographed movements and cheers for all the band music(yes the band goes). Apperntly the band got in trouble recenly and were on probation, so they were on good behavior. The badgers(wisconsin) were playing the Sioux(north Dakota). Apparently they are both in the top 5 for college hockey, so it was a great time. The chanted sieve at the N. Dakota goalie most of the game, they also had a chant of "racist mascot" and "sue(sioux)'s a girls name". It was funny. We then went out after the game. Sat. we went to the Football game. Some of the group went out to the bar instead of going to the game. Once again the student section and band were awesome. The opponent(minnesota) was not that great so football wise, it wasn't a great game. AFter the game we met our friends at the bar. It was jam packed and they were playing great music. Due to the fact that drinking started for some at 10 am, it was an early night, with most past out by 7pm. Sunday was a nothing day and we went home on Monday. The kids had a great time with their grandparents. My parents left today for Florida, and will stop by again around Halloween on there return trip to MA. My parents game Buddy a game boy for his birthday. He has already lost privledges for it. He has been getting in trouble at least once a week in the bathroom at school. He fools around, talks too loudly too often, once he kicked the wall. Hopefully he can get his act together. Lizzie is doing great. I see some of Buddy's tendencies in her, so I am not sure how she will do in school next year.

Knock Knock

So traveling with two 4 year olds(lizzie and the girl I watch), I get to hear all sorts of conversation. Hear are some of the jokes they were telling. It started off okay and quickly went downhill.

Why did the cookie go to the doctor? Because he was crumby?
Knock, knock! Who's there? Scooby. Scooby who? Scooby Doo
Knock, knock! Who's there? you. You who? ha ha

After a few more "jokes" I threw in Why was 6 afraid of 7? cause 7 eight 9
the next joke was
Why was the orange afraid of the banana? because the banana had a bigger peel.
Knock, knock! Who's there? banana. Banana who? banana you glad I didn't say orange
Knock, knock! Who's there? salt. Salt who? Salt and Pepper.

Just though I would pass on these wonderful jokes. Oh, believe it or not, but I had a good bagging experience at the grocery store.

Surprise

We had a good weekend. We went camping to the mountains. The mountains are about 3-6 hours from here, depending on were you are going. People hear think we are in the perfect location, 2hours form the beach and 3 hours from the beach. Being from Massachusetts, I think that these are long drives to do every weekend, as many people here do. Anyway, we got Buddy out of school early and drove to the mountains. We got our tent set up just before it was completely dark,. The campsite was nice and had clean bathrooms. On Sat. we went to Chimney Rock. A friend went with us with his dog and we brought our dogs. Some people did not enjoy walking by our dogs, but most people were good about it. We got some apples while we were there and cider( the real stuff). The 2gallons of cider are gone now. Overall a very good weekend. Yesterday I had jury duty. I had to show up at 9am. Then they sent us home to come back at 2pm. At 2, they picked the jurors. I was not called. It was a civil suit, were a person was rearended and was suing for bodily injury. It was a low impact collision. I think it would have been interesting to hear the case, but child care wise it made it easy to not have to go back in the next day. When I got home I had to take take Zeus and CHewy to the vet. Zeus had not had any shots at that vet before so I had to wait for them to get the record from the old vet. They were supposed to do this before my appt. and apparently did not. So they told the vet the info over the phone and were supposed to fax it over. Well they never faxed it and vet didn't want to do the shots until she had it on paper. Finally after 30minutes she decided to take them at their word. I had told her I wasn't going to wait longer than 30 minutes, the dogs were getting antsy. Now with the plan I have with the dogs I pay under $20 a month, and I don't pay any office fees, shots and a few other minor things. It works out to be a good deal. So since joining this new vet, I have had to have all three of my dogs anal glands expressed. I had only heard of anal glands because my sister dog had a problem with it(I think it was her dog). I don't know if my dogs really needed this done, because they have never needed this done before. I did not want to not have it done in case there was a problem and I was just being cheap.I think that its a waste(lol) of money, but I am no vet. Anyway, i was annoyed with that. So that was my weekend. Today we had a conference with Buddy's teacher. She said he is doing great academically, but she has to remind him to pay attention, and he talks loud. Nothing new, there. We debated starting him in school a year later(his birthday was at the cutoff). We ended up starting him because academically he was ready, so I don;'t know if it would have been better or worse if he started school a year later or not. Tomorrow is his 7th birthday. Today I took Lizzie to the mall to pick out his present. I told her not to tell him. As soon as we picked him up from school she told him what she got. She said to me that she just wanted to tell him that. I tried to play it off and say that is just what Buddy wanted to get, not necessarily what he was going to get. We also picked up a present of a neighbor's kid whose bday is on Halloween, we will see if Lizzie can keep that secret.
